The summer is moving along quickly in Patchwork’s Arts & Smarts Program! This week we finished the third week of summer children’s activities. We’ve been busy!
Some of the things we’ve accomplished are:
- We acted out several stories with Susan Fowler, including:
- How scientists first realized what was happening when they saw a solar eclipse
- The story of The Rainbow Fish
- The story of Grandma’s Featherbed
- We picked kale in the garden, roasted it, and sampled it
- We “blinged out” bike helmets with handmade stickers
- We sang songs with Gary and Jesse
- We drove robots as part of a STEM lesson from the library
- We solved THE MYSTERY OF THE MISSING TIARA
- We cooked a healthy and zesty salad with fresh ingredients and a recipe provided by the library’s Book n’ Cook program
- We made underwater-themed sculptures in the clay studio
- We weeded the garden and planted sweet potatoes (the reward was a chance to pick a few blackberries!)
- We created “Color Twister” paper collages inspired by Eric Carle’s book Hello Red Fox
Now we’ll take a break for two weeks and then finish the summer with two weeks of activities in July. Keep an eye out for more updates on the fun!
