Summer Art Garden Fun

Our summer Arts & Smarts program is off to a wonderful start for the summer!

Highlights of the first two weeks have included:

  • Making soft sculpture sloths out of socks with Jean.
  • Telling the story of “Slowly, Slowly, Slowly,” Said the Sloth with Susan. It’s the story of a sloth who knows exactly who he is (slow and quiet) and who he is not (lazy).
  • Working with the Master Gardeners to plant zinnias and sweet potatoes in our garden and harvesting radishes.
  • Chopping up and cooking our radishes to make roasted candied radishes with Jane.
  • Telling the story of The Rainbow Fish with Susan and learning from it how to be a good friend and to share. With a little help from Spencer and his guitar, Susan turned this story into a fantastic musical number!
  • Throwing pots in our ceramics studio with Molly and Jean.
  • Helping to cut up vegetables for salads for snack.
  • Wearing different fun and funky sunglasses to match our moods each day.
  • Watering our newly planted garden plants to help them through the heatwave.
  • Singing camp songs with Cindy and her guitar.
  • Learning how to change a bike tire and tube with Pete.
  • Learning about honeybees from the Master Gardeners.
  • Making ceramic windchimes with Molly.
  • And most of all: Getting to be part of a fun community of people ages 6 to 70+!

We have two more weeks of summer activities still to come in June and one more in July. Who knows what fun we’ll have in that time!
