We’ve completed the first week of our Summer Arts & Smarts Program, and we’re looking forward to more!
So far, explored Patchwork’s garden and pulled weeds to prepare the beds for sweet potatoes. We also harvested some big kale plants, and everyone started sampling the raw leaves to see what they tasted like.
We’ve told stories with Susan Fowler that included everything from reenacting Paul Revere’s ride to embodying the book The Wild Robot. Susan also helped us create custom Earth Beads to show we are “Purple People of Possibility for the Planet” and joined us in our gardening adventures.
In the studio, we created weaving looms using clay slabs. Once the looms have been fired in the kiln, we’ll add webs of yarn for a multi-media artwork.
And we had a visit from our friends at the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library. They brought their little Ozobot robots that happily follow paths drawn with markers. Color patterns added to these paths tell the robots to do things like change colors or do a little dance.
We still have four more weeks of summer activities to go–two in June and two in July. If you’re interested, you can still sign your children up! We also welcome additional high school and adult volunteers. You can find more information on the poster below and on our website.
