Glove Monsters

It’s an inspirational Valentine’s Day movie:

You’ve lost your match. You’ve lost your purpose.

But then you realize that you’re full of potential and you reinvent yourself.

In the process, you see that there was an amazing character inside you all along!

But, in this case the lost matches are gloves. And the new characters are Glove Monsters that our Arts & Smarts participants built using their imaginations and some stuffing, feathers, felt, and plastic eyeballs.

Participants chose a glove to start with, and then sketched several ideas for the character it could become. They chose their favorite sketch and assembled their monster. Then they created a backstory for their monster, adding things like names, lists of favorite things, and origin stories.

The Glove Monsters will stick around Patchwork for a little longer. The kids will take the characters that they’ve created and will work together to tell a story that involves all of their monsters. Given the wacky group of characters, there’s no telling where the story will go!

Here are a few examples of the monsters so far:

Angel Sonic likes to be nice. He runs fast and flies fast and crawls fast. He likes to mix potions to make people fast. He likes to be around sonic friends.
