Summer is Underway

Our Summer Arts & Smarts Children’s Program is underway!

This past week was the first of five, and already it’s been a whirlwind of activity. So far, we’ve:

  • Gotten to know one another during Circle Time
  • Sung silly songs with Bailey
  • Created collaged nametags
  • Told many stories with Susan Fowler, including The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats (it was especially fun to throw “snowballs” on a warm summer day!)
  • Created wacky art hats using newspaper
  • Listened to stories presented by guests from the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library
  • Learned about the Three Sisters of Native American gardening from the Master Gardeners of Southwestern Indiana
  • Eaten tasty snacks prepared by Patty
  • Taken a Patchwork garden tour with Jane
  • Planted sweet potatoes in Patchwork’s garden

The fun will continue!

In future weeks we’ll work in the ceramics studio, create puppets inspired by Ezra Jack Keats’ book Louie, host visiting folk artists, have additional visits from the library and the Master Gardeners, tell more stories with Susan, plant more in our garden, and eat food grown in our garden.

There’s still time to join!

You can find registration forms for participants in grades 1-8 or for high school and adult volunteers on our website, or you can stop by Patchwork’s main office to pick them up in person. We’ll have activities on the weeks of June 12, June 19, July 10, and July 17. Each week runs Monday-Thursday and activities go from 2:30 pm-5:00 pm. If you’re interested in joining us, please check ahead to make sure there are spaces available during the weeks you want to attend.
