Summer Arts & Smarts

Summer fun continues at Patchwork Central! We are a little over halfway through our Summer Arts & Smarts Children’s Programming, and so far there has been a lot of learning, fun, and laughter.

Susan Fowler has graced us with her energetic presence. She has been telling stories, encouraging us to be “Purple People of Possibility for the Planet,” and joining in to add extra song and joy to our other activities.

Our Arts & Smarts staff and volunteers have led some special art projects. These include work painting a new mural that features self-portraits depicting everyone’s “sparks,” which are the interests and passions that light a fire in their lives and express the essence of who they are and what they offer to the world. The summer’s art projects also include ceramic flower pots constructed from slabs of clay. We also enjoyed a beautiful day making chalk art on Patchwork’s front sidewalk to welcome one and all into the building.

And, volunteers from the Southwestern Indiana Master Gardener’s Association have visited to help us plant our raised-bed garden and to provide an array of educational opportunities. They’ve let us taste different kinds of tomatoes, they’ve told us about honeybees, they’ve helped us plant zinnias in Patchwork’s pollinator garden, and they’ve done even more!

Our summer activities will wrap up on July 8, but until then you can look for more signs of an Art Garden Summer all around our building!
